EMCETLs Pedagogic Research Network
The network exists for CETL staff (primarily East Midlands based but not exclusively) working in pedagogic or educational research. The network recognises that many members are researchers working in relative isolation and possibly with colleagues from different discipline cultures.
The network aims to provide a forum in which to:
- to facilitate discussion;
- extend understanding and share expertise;
- provide mutual support;
- promote greater understanding of pedagogic research and evaluation;
- build a community of practice;
- build research and evaluation capacity for individual CETLs and for East Midlands CETLs as a whole; and
- raise the profile of pedagogic research within institutions.
Network Activities:
Jiscmail list – a safe place to share ideas, ask questions and test hypotheses (emc-pedagogic-research@jiscmail.ac.uk). To join email Susan Moron-Garcia aa4458@coventry.ac.uk
Face to face meetings – opportunity to identify issues for discussion and future activities.
Needs & Knowledge Resource - spread sheet capturing members’ expertise and needs to aid understanding.
Shared Bibliography – key texts that members have found helpful, including notes to indicate usefulness/limitations
Workshops (with the support of the Higher Education Academy):
‘The ABC of Pedagogy’ 30/01/07 supported by the Higher Education Academy. The workshop provided an introduction to some of concepts and theories underpinning pedagogic research and showcased research being carried out in our regional CETLs. It provided an opportunity for mutual support and open discussion of issues relating to the conduct of pedagogic research and for participants to get help and advice about their own research projects.
‘Pedagogic Research Workshop’ 24/07/07, supported by the Higher Education Academy, in order to provide an introduction to pedagogic research and the methods used.
