Physics Innovation Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (πCETL)
Open University, with the Universities of Leicester & Reading
The Centre will develop new methods in the teaching of physics, both as a separate discipline and through an interdisciplinary approach to science education. At Leicester we will employ a research approach to the continued development of problem-based learning. Through problems that integrate theory with experiment, and that deal with real-world issues such as sustainable development, we will enhance student engagement and employability. Together with our partners we shall evolve the pedagogy of e-learning appropriate to new technologies in physics, including the use of a virtual physics laboratory to improve theoretical understanding. We shall develop ways of collaborative e-learning that will provide students with a richer experience of science.
