Centre for Integrative Learning
University of Nottingham
The Centre for Integrative Learning initiates and supports approaches to education that encourage students to enrich their development by drawing connections between different learning experiences. At the heart of our vision is the aim to develop students' abilities to think critically and creatively across lines to transfer their learning between contexts.
Since we began our work at the University of Nottingham, we have:
engaged over 17,000 students, by year 4, in Integrative Learning across all five Faculties of the University; exceeding our year 5 target of 5,000
generated a portfolio of over 60 Integrative Learning projects across the Institution
played a major role in the formulation of the University’s new academic job family, to recognise excellence in teaching and learning at every stage of career development
supported academics to investigate their teaching practices, helping them to locate their integrative learning projects in the scholarship of learning and teaching
taken a leading role in establishing new learning centres on each of the three campuses
forged an active partnership with University senior management and the Students’ Union to design an institution-wide student award scheme extending formal recognition to non-curricular learning experiences
laid the foundations for an innovative pedagogy of Integrative Learning through establishing research groups and national and international networks
enhanced the University’s contribution to its region through entrepreneurship education, eportfolio technology, the EMCETLs initiative, and nationally through Subject Centre participation
