Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Loughborough University
The Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (engCETL) is located in the Faculty of Engineering at Loughborough University. Our aim is to be recognised as the UK centre for excellence in the research, development and provision of engineering education through an active involvement with industry.
The 14 engCETL staff include a wide range of skills, with a team of pedagogic researchers (plus 4 full-time PhD students), industrial and academic co-ordinators and learning technologists. engCETL also has a team of seven seconded academics, who operate as the interface between those who work at engCETL and their own department colleagues. engCETL also has a team of internal and external consultants, which form the membership of our Advisory Board along with industrial contacts and students.
Activities over the past year have included designing and building our new learning and teaching space (financed by a HEFCE capital budget of £1.4M), co-ordinating the formation of an East Midlands CETLs Pedagogic Research network, and integrating into the Loughborough University reward system by jointly funding teaching & learning awards to staff. Looking forward, we are developing engineering specific content and resources for the University's academic probationers programme, initiating a comprehensive evaluation of our learning spaces and the associated technologies, as well as running key skills workshops for undergraduate engineers.
